Video of the sports event “As Voltas do Impossível” awarded at ART & TUR- International Tourism Film Festival

The video “As Voltas do Impossível, uma história real!” (“Voltas do Impossível, a real story!”) , which was awarded at ART & TUR, aims to showcase the best moments of the first edition of this sporting adventure, highlighting the historical context and unique characteristics of this event.

The historical context of this sporting event is one of the factors that most distinguishes it from others, and this video aims to trace the passage of time from the era of tungsten mining to the present day, showing the trails, mines, and landscapes traversed by the Pilhas almost a century ago.

Synopsis:

The first tungsten mines were demarcated in Rio de Frades in 1914. During the World Wars, these mines were exploited by the Companhia Mineira do Norte de Portugal, owned by Germans. The main character in this ‘sporting adventure’ is the ‘pilha’, who personifies the miners of Rio de Frades, prominent figures in the history of World War II, who tried to escape their hard life, much like the athletes who ventured along these extremely difficult trails, collecting the tungsten transport permits scattered along the route. The lighting of the lamp defines the time period in which the event takes place, the ‘Taps’ that is heard whenever a ‘Pilha’ gives up. The passage of time from the early 20th century to the present day.
